FSC Professional Development

For Teachers

Out-of-classroom learning has been in the ‘spotlight’ over recent months with conflicting advice from Trades Unions and the government. The FSC firmly believes that out-of-classroom/residential visits are an intrinsic part of education and personal development. We, therefore, provide training so that teachers can have the confidence and knowledge to provide safe effective fieldwork for their students.

In response to the very positive reviews from students the FSC will be running sponsored training courses for PGCE students again this year. Managing Health and Safety has proved a very popular feature of these courses and will be included again.

Our courses provide some training in basic fieldwork skills such as group management and site risk assessment. Further reassurance on how FSC Field Centres handle health and safety concerns, particularly those raised by parents and school managers, can be found in the FSC’s Parents and Governors guide.

British Ecological SocietyThe courses are open to all PGCE Primary students, and Geography, Science and Biology Secondary students. Because of additional sponsorship from the British Ecological Society, the cost of the biology/science courses has been reduced.

If you are interested, please contact the Centre directly. The courses will be filled by suitable applicants on a first-come basis. As courses last year were over-subscribed you are advised to apply early!

There are no remaining courses in this year's programme.
