Intermediate 1 and 2 Geography Programmes
Experience shows that fieldwork can play a vital part in enthusing Intermediate students. Its ‘hands on’, practical approach, investigating real life situations, supports their understanding of geography with case studies, while also developing their enquiry and organisational skills. Both aspects of fieldwork will help students maximise their achievement in coursework, and examinations.
As well as covering specific elements of the Course Arrangements, programmes also place a strong emphasis on developing core skills and informed attitudes, with an opportunity to participate in activities relating to enterprise, health, well being and citizenship.
Three day programme:
Physical Environment
This three day programme can be tailored to either intermediate 1 or 2 and focuses on elements from the Physical Environment unit.
- Introduction to geographical investigation and sampling methods
- Data collection using a range of fieldwork techniques and equipment - observation, measurement and recording
- Analysis, presentation and interpretation of data
- Upland glaciated landscape/river and its valley
- Rural land use - management and sustainability/conservation issues
- Team building and problem solving activities such as ropes challenge and orienteering
