WJEC Biology
FSC programmes are fixed length courses with clearly stated outcomes and links to curriculum specification requirements.
Specific programmes have been developed for those studying A2 Biology, following the WJEC specification, to enable teachers to quickly and easily book a residential fieldtrip, safe in the knowledge that it will be directly related to concepts taught in the classroom and will contribute to achieving WJEC specification requirements.
Achieving WJEC A2 specification requirements
Students will gain a thorough understanding of the ecological content of the WJEC specification. The programmes will build on some of the ideas about variation, classification and biodiversity covered in AS Assessment Unit BY2 and provide comprehensive coverage of the ecological content from A2 Assessment Unit BY4 and BY5. Ecological principles will be applied to questions of real life interest such as the effect of human activity on the environment (e.g. species extinction, agricultural exploitation, eutrophication and climate change).
Eight day programme:
Biodiversity and the Environment
This programme covers the same content as the 5 day programme, but enables students to gain further practice in fieldwork and analytical techniques and to experience a wider range of habitats and organisms. There is also the opportunity to explore ‘How Science Works’ issues in more depth.
Five day programme:
Biodiversity and the Environment
Programme content includes:
- Investigation within a successional ecosystem
- Population growth (including a quantitative study to assess population size)
- Sampling techniques
- Conservation issues and management
- Energy flow through an ecosystem
